content vs art: what the fuck

do you ever question the difference between art and “content”?

there was a time not too long ago when the whole concept of content as we see it today was foreign. music, comics, writing, movies of all genres, and even newer creative mediums like video games were all considered art, for the most part. so, when did it become content? and what separates content from art? by extension, am i an artist or just a content creator? the latter feels demeaning, almost a bit… corporate. doesnt it? maybe that’s just me.

but srsly. is it where you find your comics, music, writing, etc.? does my art become content the moment i put it on my website? what about a large platform like instagram? do sites like deviantart and newgrounds count towards this art vs content bullshit, being made for artists and all, or does it not matter where you post it?

but that doesnt feel quite right, does it? you can find a great wealth of music, for example, spanning across the decades, before the concept of modern internet, all on youtube. i think we can all say the music there is indisputably art. but that’s the problem, isnt it? the whole concept of art is so subjective, so nebulous.

maybe its what’s contained inside the things we deem as content. maybe content implies a certain amount of mindlessness, “brainrot” as people say now. meeting the status quo, never challenging it. is content a greedy corporate hand trying to wring out as much money out of a property as possible? countless plastic junk toys, spin-offs, sequels? is that art? but even that has a human soul behind it, at least usually (fuck its a bit dystopian i even have to say that). despite whether or not I personally agree with it, things like disney and harry potter or whatever else have affected people positively, like art. ridding myself of my own biases, i guess i’d consider shit like pokemon and my little pony art in its own right.

then maybe it targets “content farm” creators and people making things only to please some internet algorithm. i’d be happy to accept that as the definition. but maybe theres some 5 year old out there who had their mind blown by what i assume is cheap bullshit. how would i know? and who would i be to judge? its not my place or anybody’s, really.

maybe if art is so subjective,
content is too.

ANYWAYS RANT OVER LMAO

im working on a little disclaimer for the site that says its shit on mobile and tells little kids to gtfo. no h8 to kids but like,, im a horrible fucking influence. if you want to show some of my comics to your stinky kids i wont stop you i GUESS?? just dont expect wholesome kiddie content here. im an adult and will inevitably talk about my experiences. i dont want an 11 year old smoking weed and saying slurs they dont know the origin or weight of because the funny website guy does.

aside from that, im also back into music!! dont want to talk too much abt it in case i do that thing where i get stressed and lose steam, but i will say its been super fun and i’ve gotten less shitty at it.

i’ve also gotten back into animation for the first time in years. my shit ass dad told me i should give up back in high school since my grades were so dogshit, and for some fucking reason i listened. i never touched it again. and now he’s not here to know i’m picking it up again to spite him. seriously fuck that guy.

anyways i want to smoke but i need to not be high when my sister gets home soooo guess i wont rn
